A crisis exists on the southern border. Each person has their reason for crossing. The debate rages, what is legal, ethical and moral? If you only hear about the crisis, you might believe it is political propaganda. Tom Gerald’s family owns a Texas border ranch, the crisis is real and trespassing their land. Life decisions require us to cross borders and lead us down a path. The crisis causes Tom to review his life. Decisions changed the direction of his family’s life. They found joy and peace in the middle of pain and disappointment. The world offered things that appeared so appealing but weren’t the answer. The answer is in a song. “Turn your eyes upon Jesus…and the things of earth will grow strangely dim.” Jesus wants to cross the border of our hearts. A Strange Dimming is the testimony of Jesus lighting our path.
One of the joys of being a pastor is the joy of serving with people whose lives are sold out to the Lord. They boldly speak of their faith in Christ. They seek to serve not to be served. You cannot be around them without being encouraged. Mark Wilson is just such a Christ-follower. That makes “A Strange Dimming” a captivating read. You can see the passionate faith in the characters while struggling in everyday circumstances. If you are an outdoorsman or woman, or you just need some encouragement in technicolor, this is a must read!

Mr. Wilson nailed it! This is a timely, compassionate, and intriguing look at the dilemma going on along our nation’s southern border which is challenging our country’s laws, as well as it’s very sovereignty! A rancher is caught in the middle of attempting to run the business side of his family’s property while those who would use it’s access to run illicit and nefarious trafficking operations endanger all those on the property.
The history, descriptive aspects of the ranches in the area, as well as the strong faith of this family which attempts to serve not only their hunting clients, but those who are being trafficked in a loving manner serves as an example of walking a tightrope to keep all safe when all these different predicaments come into close proximity of one another.
I would highly recommend this book as a look at one man’s faith and service of those around him, with the help of his family, who exemplifies a heart motive which is one worthy of following.
